Mt. Charleston is a clever alternative to the hot scene at Red Rocks. About thirty minutes north of Las Vegas, this wilderness area has a host of sport climbs on friendly limestone. The rock here is especially good quality and the climbs follow suit.
There are easier climbs to be found but they are few and far between the predominately overhanging and pumpy caves and crags. Most of the climbing here is upwards of 5.10 range and seated in beautiful forest surroundings. The elevation is substantially higher than that in Las Vegas so the temperatures here are much more conducive for climbing during the summer months than they are in Red Rocks.
