Description
White Ranch Open Space, located outside Golden, offers some of the best mountain biking in the area. Once a homestead ranch, White Ranch is now run by Jefferson County as a recreational area.
The trails of White Ranch Open Space feature rolling singletrack studded with longer climbs and good technical downhills, perfect for intermediate level riders and up. The climbing on the White Ranch Open Space trails is tough, illustrated by Maverick trail’s 1800 vertical foot grind. Mustang trail is a great downhill, accessed from the top of Maverick. Belcher Trail also provides good climbing. Traveling through a combination of open meadow and forested foothills, the White Ranch trails can be ridden as a loop or car shuttled.
Views of the surrounding mountains and valleys to White Ranch Open Space are expansive. Riders can also enjoy riding past the unique structures left from the area’s ranching days. White Ranch is a popular destination for Golden area mountain bikers and recreationalists and the trails can get busy. In addition, heat in summer can be an issue and it is recommended riders begin early on summer days.
