Horses and horse back riding have been a part of Palo Duro Canyon's history since the days of the Apaches, Kiowas, Comanches, and Cheyennes. Tho' you shouldn't expect your ride to be as daring as some of theirs undoubtedly were, we expect that you'll want to make your own horse back riding history when you visit Palo Duro Canyon and the Old West Stables.
Our rental horses are tame and well kept and our horse back riding guides are not just experienced, they're real honest to goodness COWBOYS! You'll never find a more beautiful setting as you ride the canyon floor through the same hills and ravines as such famous individuals as Colonel Ranald MacKenzie of the U.S. Calvary and Colonel Charles Goodnight, Palo Duro Canyon's first permanent white settler.
Be sure to remember to make reservations, especially if you'd like to make the 6 mile round trip ride to Palo Duro Canyon's most recognized landmark, a hoodoo carved by eons of erosion and appropriately named, The Canyon Lighthouse.
