Amarillo may seem like Cowboy City Central, but it has a healthy, humorous touch of the strange. You can't pass up a look at the Helium Monument (built, indeed, to honor the helium molecule). Nor can you pass up Cadillac Ranch, a Stonehenge built of classic cars. But once you've given the more bizarre side of Amarillo a look, check out the dramatic Caprock Canyon and Palo Duro State Parks. Stop by Alibates Flint Quarries National Monument for ancient history with an eerie natural beauty. Lake Meredith National Recreation Area is another natural wonder in Amarillo's backyard.
Less natural, but also very fun is Wonderland Amusement Park, an "old school" park the kids will love. Don't miss the Amarillo Zoo, or the many art galleries and museums in the area.
