Description
As the second highest range in the state, behind the Guadalupe Mountains, the Davis Mountains stand in contrast in more than just size. While its brother mountains are rugged and high, the Davis Mountains are more vegetated, more gentle, and this scenic loop winds casually among them and their patchy, but lush, forests.
The drive does ease through the lovely Davis Mountains State Park, through Limpia Canyon and Madera Canyon, and by Mt. Livermore and Sawtooth Mountain. More urban, but no less interesting sites on the route include the McDonald Observatory and the Fort Davis National Historic Site.
